We evaluated the
current phytosociological characteristics of closed pedunculate oak forests
growing on sand in the Danube–Tisza Interfluve, Central Hungary. We carried
out an extensive survey in near-natural old-growth stands by recording
altogether 50 relevés at Csévharaszt, Hetényegyháza, Kunadacs, Kunbaracs,
Kunpeszér, Nagykőrös, Nyárlőrinc and Ruzsa. The phytosociological
characteristics of the full data set were determined and compared to other
closed pedunculate oak forests growing in the Tengelic Sands, Mezőföld (Polygonato
latifolii-Quercetum roboris), and along the Danube in Szigetköz (Melico
nutantis-Quercetum roboris). We found that the studied forests were
rather similar in several aspects, but those in the Danube–Tisza Interfluve
harbored substantially fewer Fagetalia species than the forests in the other
two areas.
